A noteworthy contributor to the thriving Denver music scene, Julie Stratton is meticulous in her craft. Her writing is notoriously poignant and bare. “I’m trying to build a bridge over all of our gaps...using as few words as possible” Julie’s lyrical power is enhanced by the beautifully clear voice with which the words are delivered. Effortlessly transitioning from the driving guitar on songs like “Time Runs Out” to the delicate ukulele of “Punch for Punch” to the soulful and a cappella “Rise”, Julie Stratton is a subtle, dynamic, and captivating performer.
Julie began playing guitar and writing songs in the crash and angst of those late teenage years. In 2006 Julie graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in sound engineering. As a driving member of The Mile Markers, Julie released two full-length albums, Take to the Road and For the Madness. The songs showcased on Julie's most recent release, a solo album titled Fit For Standing, are nuanced and rich, reminiscent of Brandi Carlile and Nathaniel Ratelif. Fit For Standing sparkles with a cast of exceptional guest musicians including Devotchka’s Jeanie Schroder and Tom Hagerman and Bridget Law of Elephant Revival.
Julie has shared bills with such renowned performers as Eilen Jewel, Abigail Washburn, Dead Winter Carpenters, Edison, Elephant Revival, Benny Galloway, Field Division, Mandolin Orange, and Daniel Martin Moore. She has also been invited to preform at the Northwest String Summit, Moab Folk Festival, Denver Underground Music Showcase, and the Boulder Creek Festival.
